For the last 20 years, Florentina Moatar is working on hydrology and water quality of river systems and more specifically on the Loire River Basin. She is interested on the mechanistic modeling of water temperature and its evolution under climate change. She is also working on water quality modeling using physically based models and statistical approaches. Using statistical methods, she analyzes the spatial and temporal (trend and seasonality) variability and uncertainty of stream nutrient fluxes and develops software tools for designing appropriate water sampling strategies. Spatialisation des régimes thermiques des cours d’eau dans un contexte de changement climatique à l’échelle des bassins versants. Trois objectifs principaux : 1) comprendre les différents facteurs de contrôle (morphologie, climat, végétation..) à une échelle régionale, 2) étudier les processus qui gouvernent le régime thermique des rivières (échanges nappes-rivières, bilan énergétique, végétation…) à l'échelle de la station , 3) Simuler les évolutions thermiques des cours d’eau au XXIème siècle en fonction de projections climatiques et hydrologiques pour un ensemble de bassins à fonctionnement hydrologique contrasté (Seine, Loire, Somme).
Evolution long-terme des métriques (concentrations et flux) de qualité des cours d’eau (azote, phosphore, matières en suspension, ions majeurs) à l’échelle de la France. Il s’agit 1) de proposer des méthodes de détermination des métriques et de leurs incertitudes à partir des suivis discrets  2) d’exploiter cette méthodologie pour analyser le lien entre l’évolution temporelle des impacts observés et celle des pressions à l’échelle de la France pour l’azote, le phosphore, les MES ainsi que certains ions majeurs indicateurs de pollution industrielle.
Impacts croisés du changement climatique et des activités humaines sur l’hydrologie et la qualité des cours d’eau du bassin de la Loire. Deux analyses sont menées conjointement de façon spatiale et de manière couplée (hydrologie et qualité physico-chimique) : d’une part sur le temps présent, d’autre part par analyse des impacts des scénarios climatiques, de façon continue jusqu’à l’horizon 2100.
